Its name stems from Segura, name by which it was known in Muslim times. A safe, protected, fortified place. It talks about the watchtower built for defensive purposes by the Muslims. It is in the s.XIII when it changed the name to Segurilla. The first evidence of settlement dates back to the eleventh century, when the territory was re-conquered by Alfonso VI. In the mid-twelfth century, in the midst of the repopulation process, the Almohade raids took place, and devastated part of the Talavera community. This supposed the lifting of numerous and fortified towers and watchtowers throughout the region. This tower was later used as a sentry post for transhumant livestock
because of its proximity to the Cañada Real. |
