As a rural county, the holidays and traditions of the Sierra de San Vicente are closely linked to agriculture and livestock, so the cycle of the towns’ holidays coincides largely with the beginning or end of the work of the land or the livestock, such as the old Cattle Fair in Pelahustán.
Christian rituals are also the basis for many of the festivals of these towns, based on miracles produced in the past or the worship of the Saints of each town. In fact, the shire is named after a martyred saint who had taken refuge in the mountains, fleeing from Talavera on the road to Avila. In the Pico de San Vicente we can still see the "Cave of the Holy Martyrs" that received pilgrimages during a long time.
One of the oldest festivals of the region is being held in Garciotún since the middle of the XVI century, it is the feast of Malena on July 22. It is a festival to thanks St. Mary Magdalene that the tradition says, stopped the epidemic plague that had spread through the region in 1553.
